Styrofoam

Styrofoam Brand Foam

Styrofoam Brand Foam is a registered trademark of the Dow Chemical Company (“Dow”).

Photo of Ray McIntyre
Ray McIntyre invented this foam during World War II. During this time rubber was in short supply, so Ray set out to find an alternative to that substance.  When he combined isobutylene and styrene, he created a material that was flexible and solid which resulted in Styrofoam.

Styrofoam is 98% air! How about that!
